Sheffield is a truly exciting and vibrant city with many facilities and venues which provide a variety of events and contrasting spectaculars.
Once again, Britain's biggest indoor sporting event will return to the Sheffield Arena on 15th April 2010, as the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts heads to Yorkshire. Over 6,000 fans have packed into the venue over the visits of the world's top darts players, led by Phil "The Power" Taylor and James "The Machine" Wade, for the past three years. 2010 will see current Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts champion James Wade amongst the eight competitors, as will 14-time World Champion and four-time Premier League winner Phil Taylor. They will be joined by five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld and former Premier League Darts finalists Terry Jenkins and Mervyn King as well as Ronnie Baxter.
The Betfred.com World Snooker Championship returns to the Theatre Sheffield from 17 April – 3 May 2010. This event is the richest, oldest and most important tournament in snooker. The trophy is the one that all players dream of lifting and it is the title that marks the snooker greats out from the very good.
Staged at the famous Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, the event has a long-frame format and lasts a marathon 17 days, making it one of the longest events in all of sport
Europe’s largest bellydancing festival – Raqs Britannia – is taking place from Friday 25 June to Sunday 27 June 2010 in Sheffield City Hall . It will be hosted by the world famous Bellydance Superstars, the brainchild of music impresario Miles Copeland, former manager of The Police and Sting. On Saturday 26th June the headline act 'The Bellydance Superstars' will perform their show, ‘The Art of Bellydance’, for the very first time in Sheffield. The show features modern urban rhythms and electronic/Arabic fusion music that shape the tribal style of the dance, alongside more traditional styles of Egyptian Raqs Sharqi, Cabaret and Indian fusion.
